Metaphysics is the fundamental view - or perception - of the world around us. It encompasses everything that exists, including the nature of existence itself. The goal of metaphysics is to seek the truth in all matters. To seek to understand life, the mind, the spirit, and how they relate to one another. The result of metaphysics proves that incorporating practical applications into our daily lives will strengthen, enlighten, manifest and connect us with all of life, including the universe - and the universe to us.
The study of metaphysics is God-centered (or love-centered or truth-centered), that seeks the inner Source within oneself. All the roads that other people are traveling in various aspects of spirituality end up coming back to the inner Source within oneself. Metaphysics is not a religion, but a concentration of the ultimate cause in the universe, both within and beyond the limits of the physical.
Meta = Beyond
Physics = The Science of Matter and Energy
Many people have an altered understanding of metaphysics and many refer to it as "new age" or "new thought." This "new age" they refer to is really old age wisdom that resurfaced in the 1960’s. Many mystery schools (some of which are over 4,000 years old) came out of hiding at that time to be re-discovered by the general public. People who explore metaphysics may adhere to a certain religion, such as christianity, paganism, buddhism or hinduism which are all belief systems on how to perceive reality. Some folks may even associate tarot cards, crystals, astrology and the like. Metaphysics includes all religions and associations but transcends them all. The heart of metaphysics brings one to ultimately understand their own spirituality, or their own matrix, and that life is all connected—a unity consciousness—not separated by religion or paganism.
Aristotle saw metaphysics as the core of all religions because it deals with the “first principle” of all things. The first principle of being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time and space. Therefore, metaphysics is not a branch of philosophy but rather, philosophy is a branch of metaphysics. Metaphysics is the umbrella to which all falls under. It is the Absolute, the Illusion, the Unconscious, the Eternal and the All Creation.
A big part of metaphysics is the practice of mysticism. This is another example of distorted understanding. Mysticism has become a blanket term, including everything from palm reading to crystal ball-gazing. In reality, it is none of these. Mysticism represents the highest quest of human growth and awareness. It is synthesizing the functional mind with the creative intelligence of the universe. Mystics are willing and able to bridge the gap between the material and the spiritual, the physical and the divine.
The main practice to achieve mysticism is through meditations, prayers, mantra's and visualizations. Throughout history, enlightened sources such as Jesus, Buddha, Ram, Yogananda and many other spiritual beings lead the way in mysticism. The purpose of mysticism is to focus the mind within on the true self. The self without the inflated ego, the self without fear, the self that is one with all that the universe has to offer. And when one practices mysticism in both subconscious and conscious reality of self—one will not only experience the absolute reality of all that is peaceful, loving, healthy, prosperous and wise—one will become it.
